Made Thai Green Curry. From scratch. Stir fried some cornstarch-covered chicken and bell peppers and bamboo shoots to go with it.
http://www.grouprecipes.com/49308/authentic-thai-green-curry.htmlWe went to a Thai grocery store and bought some stuff, but it was really small and they didn't have everything. We bumped into an amiable Thai woman there, though, who got really excited because we were trying to make curry from scratch. She drove home and grabbed some of the ingredients from her house that we wouldn't have been able to find unless we trucked over to Echo Park and gave them to us. We tried to pay her, but she said that seeing us trying to make it from scratch was reward enough.
Every once in a while, you find a person that's willing to go out of their way to do something nice for you, even though you will never see them again, and probably wouldn't have done the same. Doing that once in a while is probably good, if only to throw people off.
Curry: There are so many random things you have to put in it. In the end though, it is totally awesome and customizable and delicious.
If you don't want to go through the trouble, at LEAST get some lime leaves and just tear them up and smell them. It's more addicting than bubble wrap.
